He wrote manuals on combat scenarios, archery scenarios, and ranged weapons, which he introduced into the Duchy. He was the creator of the “Quest,” the “Sacred Banders” and also created the Arts Challenge, a way to create arts entries without using documentation.
Although many have seen the chain maile shirt that Matt made for Dame Kelda, many do not realize that he had studied under a master armorer in Germany. He knew more chain maile patterns than most people realize exist. That shirt had some 7 different patterns in it.
Matt and I would often be quietly setting up, or break-
ing down, or planning the next thing. He and I could
work together for probably hours and never speak.
We just saw what needed to be done and worked on
it. I will never forget one time, we were setting up the
tables for twelfth night, and we each had the end of the t
ablecloth. Sonya (his cat) decided that the tablecloth
was a good place to walk. As one, without speaking,
we each lifted up our end of the tablecloth and flipped
Sonya into the air.
Each year we would host a courtly love Crown Event
in February. We also gave out prizes to the winners of various events. Matt created special prize arrows with the Avalon colors for archery, I gave out chocolates for the courtly love Arts wins.
